New Minister

John Penrose MP announced as the new Minister for Tourism

It has been announced that John Penrose MP is the new Minister for Tourism, although his exact title is yet to be confirmed.

His constituency is Weston-Super-Mare (where he has been an MP since 2005), so he will have an inherent understanding of the importance of tourism.

He has a strong business background, having worked in his earlier career for management consultants McKinsey and in banking for JPMorgan. In the Shadow Cabinet he was Minister for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform. He was also a member of both the Regulatory Reform and Work & Pensions Select Committees.

Prior to being elected to Parliament, he was a publisher and Chairman of Logotron Ltd, a small independent company creating educational software for schools, and used to be Managing Director of Longman, publishing school textbooks for the UK and parts of Africa. He has aslo worked in publishing for Thomson.

John lives with his wife in his constituency, in the village of Winscombe. His hobbies are fishing and beekeeping, and he is also chair of the All-Party Honey Bees Group. He is fluent in French and German.
